Two local Members of Parliament popped into our Boxshop and Dumbarton sites respectively to discuss all things business, packaging and ongoing investment.
MSP Collette Stevenson (SNP) visited our East Kilbride site, whilst Douglas McAllister the MP for West Dumbartonshire visited our sister site, Boxes and Packaging in Dumbarton.
Kenny Edwards, our Managing Director, and the teams at both sites welcomed both Ministers and showcased the manufacturing facilities we have, explained the role we play in the local business economy, and the importance of corrugated packaging to keep the wheels of everyday life turning.
“Building relationships with our local MPs is key to having our voice heard both in the local community and in the wider business landscape,” said Kenny. “It’s about ensuring they understand the part we play, the challenges we face and how they can help support us to excel at what we do and continue to provide worthwhile training and job opportunities for local people.”
During the visits, both ministers were given a tour of the sites and the manufacturing processes explained to them. The ambition and vision to grow the business was highlighted as was the longevity of many team members. Some are reaching almost 40 years’ service, and the newest recruits, our apprentices, were discussed and how the business is striving to impart the experience and knowledge of our older team members onto our younger ones to ensure seamless succession planning.
Kenny added; “For us to be able to deliver tangible career opportunities, we back up the roles with training and qualifications from local providers. Being able to access such training is essential and we aim to recruit more apprentices in the months and years ahead to ensure we have a skilled workforce in which we invest and which are proud to be part of our teams.”
