FEFCO Codes

The European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) is a non-profit organisation representing the interests of the industry across Europe and addressing a wide range of issues, from technical topics to economic questions.

It was in the late 1960’s that FEFCO created a recognised library of box styles supplied to assist the corrugated packaging industry and its customers.

It’s over-arching categories are:

Here are some of the most common FEFCO code solutions our customers choose.

Slotted Box

Perhaps the world’s most common box! It has flaps of equal length that meet in the middle when closed and can be taped in place to secure. It is an efficient and cost-effective packaging solution for a wide range of products and industry sectors and can be manufactured in a wide range of board grades depending on the products contained within.

Slotted Box

Features a slotted box with fully overlapping flaps with a central locking mechanism that in effect holds the box together. Internal, integral dividers avoid having loose dividers and it is ideal for drinks manufacturers including sending drinks through ecommerce channels. The top can be easily secured with tape.

Slotted Box

Has a glued seam with crash lock base. Available in a variety of size the box has a tuck in top which doesn’t require any additional sealing. It can be made tamper evident too. Typically, it lends itself to single wall board however it can be done in heavier duty material to suit a wider range of industries.

Telescopic box

A general use box and lid which is easy to assemble and has flaps of equal length that meet in the centre of the box. It’s widely used for general purpose packaging and can be corner stapled or taped by either the manufacturer or the customer. It can be very strong when correct board grades are specified.

Telescopic box

A box lid and sleeve which is octagonal in shape and generally suited to heavy duty use within food, chemical and plastics industries. Ideal for the secure transportation of granular items and products which don’t support themselves as the octagon shape is stronger than square or rectangular.

Folder box and tray

A corner cut wrapper manufactured from a single piece of board. It forms a rectangular sleeve with a partially overlapping closure and is ideal for thin or flat items such as picture frames, flat pack furniture or kitchen doors. It’s a basic design but hugely versatile and can be manufactured in a wide range of board grades.

Folder box and tray

A five-panel wrapper with extended flaps that fold into the sides giving added rigidity and strength. It’s a one-piece design that can be made in a variety of board grades to protect items during transport. The pack is secured by additional tape or glue once packing has concluded. It can be supplied flat pack to customers.

Folder box and tray

A fold-over end tray featuring a hinged lid and narrow ends which fold over and self-lock to form a simple tray. It is popular in retail settings, and the hinged lid gives easy access to product and showcasing those products on shelves. It can be used across a range of industries with success.

A very popular mailer style box. The chances are, if you have eaten a takeaway pizza, it has likely been delivered in a box that is this style! However, it’s not just for pizzas; it’s a hugely versatile box with a common concept that can be adapted to a variety of sizes and board grades and slot together without the need for additional tape.

Folder box and tray

One-piece box with fold over sides and tuck-in lid that can be made tamper evident. It can be suitable for ecommerce with the addition of tear strips and double-sided tape. It’s easy to assemble but hugely durable and gives great protection to products. It lends itself well to board grades until 5mm thick but can be utilised successfully in other board grades.

Commonly known as a bread or produce tray. Its design is self-locking giving very durable solution. It is stackable, depending on board grades used, and can be delivered assembled or flat pack for assembly at point of use.

Folder box and tray

A corner glued tray. With creased corners which are glued it can still be supplied flat to the customer and simply springs open when ready to use. It’s easy to assemble and lends itself to thinner flute profiles to allow for creasing. It is extensively used within the food industry, however, can be successfully adapted to other sectors too.

Ready glued case

A glued crash lock base box with regular slotted flaps which require taping to secure. It is easy to assemble and can be supplied in the flat. It is closed through a simple, straight tuck-in flap design. Popular in retail packaging and for shipping products it’s a popular and durable design.

Ready glued case

A glued crash lock base box delivered flat pack for easy assembly and with a tuck-in lid. No tape is required and it can be made tamper evident with the use of a lock-in tab. It benefits from a sturdy construction and provides good protection for product during transit.

Ready glued case

A pre-glued, hinged box and lid, glued in each corner and lends itself to single wall or finer flute profiles. It is supplied flat pack and is fast to assemble making it ideal for packing items which require a secure closure and product protection through the supply chain.

Interior fitment

An internal fitting to provide product protection and minimise movement during transit. It adds stability to the pack and reduces the risk of damage to product in the pack by providing a protective dividing layer.

Interior fitment

Slotted dividers can be supplied flat or assembled. The sheets interlock to create cells in which to place products such as bottles, cans or fragile objects. Suited to a range of single and double wall board grades, it’s a popular box for separating products to avoid damage or friction during transit.
