The Challenge
A moulded plastic handle business wanted a new way to showcase their products that was completely different to what they were using before. The pack needed to showcase as many of their products as possible, as the pack would be used at expo shows, but also as a sales tool to be sent out to prospective customers.
If possible, the corrugated box design was to incorporate some products from the range to show compatibility with corrugated.
Our Solution
The design is a modified 0215, with the bottom flaps cut off and a separate 0422 as a base. The handles and other components are attached to the corrugated case via die cut holes and are placed on the box roughly where they might be used in real world applications.Since the customers products are used on a variety of applications, EB flute was used for the construction of the case as it proved to be the optimal material thickness that allowed as many products to be showcased as possible. A white kraft outer substrate was also used to allow for a strong green flood colour to reflect the company’s colour scheme.
The purpose of the chosen design is to not only showcase the look of the advertised components, but also their functionality. For example, the main body of the pack is fastened to the 0422 base by a variety of the customers interlocking solutions. The top of the case is also securely closed by two of the customers reusable locking mechanisms.
Across the case the pack manages to showcase 30 of the customers products, while also providing space for printed details and the capacity to store many more products that can be used at sales events.
The Results
The customer has been delighted with the product and believes this pack offers something that their competitors don’t, where designers can physically get their hands on the products and see how they’ll be used in the real world driving an increase in sales due to enhanced understanding of products and their applications.
Costs were effectively managed by ensuring the top and bottom components were die cut on the same cutting forme and delivered as a tagged sheet. The customer would then use their riveting products to make up the top component, rather than paying to have this glued and taking this experimental marketing project to a successful conclusion
