Boxshop and our history

12 Dec 2022

Whether you’re an existing customer who doesn’t know much about our back story, or just curious as to who we are – here’s a potted history of Boxshop and where we’ve come from.

Boxshop, is one of the longest established businesses in the Logson Group. Originally established in 1986 it remains the largest/one of the largest sheet plants in Scotland.

It was created by two independent owners, David Protheroe and Douglas Lamb, who began the business from the site in East Kilbride manufacturing corrugated packaging solutions.
It remained under their ownership until the business was acquired by our now parent company, the renowned Logson Group in 2016, where we retained our iconic brand whilst operating under the Boxes and Packaging division of the group.

During our history there has been much investment and strategic growth and diversification to ensure the business continued to prosper in an ever-changing marketplace.
2013 saw one of our biggest investments take place – £2.2m on new equipment and the acquisition of a further 15,000 sq ft of space.

After our acquisition, the owners remained with the business for a time to ensure a seamless transition. In 2019, a new, and our current Managing Director, Jennifer Riddell, was appointed and since then our team has continued to grow to cope with increased volumes and to develop the next ten-year plan for the business.

Earlier this year, a huge investment project commenced, and this will be completed in Q2 of 2023. This will enable us to deliver the highest quality print to our packaging and allow us to continue our support of the Scottish food and drink sector, pharmaceutical and luxury packaging alongside other sectors such as construction, engineering, electronics, and engineering.

Keith Barclay, Head of Sales, Boxshop commented; “Boxshop has been part of the Scottish corrugated packaging landscape for many years, and I was proud to join the team earlier this year as it embarks upon perhaps its most exciting chapter in its history.

“The packaging industry continues to evolve, and it is important that manufacturers do the same so that we can continue to produce traditional packaging solutions but also meet the demands of business and consumers now.”
